Food Pantry

DONATIONS:
it is important to make sure that there is a donation box in every building on campus, excluding the bookstore and the Continuing Education building. It is also imperative that you have someone checking the donations on a regular basis to make sure that a building is not overflowing without a regular pick-up.

When donations come in, be sure to weigh them on the scale located in the pantry, and record the food intake weight in the corresponding database.

After weight has been approximated, it is time to check all of the "expiration" / "use by" dates on the food. Canned foods can be kept 6 years past their expiration in the pantry. Other items, such as boxed cereals, pastas, cakes and such should not be kept more than 6 months past their expiration. Put aside any food that is too expired to serve, and also any food that appears to have large discrepancies such as dents, taped holes or untaped holes, all of this food should NOT go on the shelves of the pantry.

CLIENTS:
When a previously enrolled client enters the SAO they will already have an assigned ID number for the food pantry. They will show you their ID card and then you must check in the record book under that ID number to see how many pantry visits they have had this month. Two visits per month is the current allowance, as long as they have not exceed that, they can then be taken to the pantry. Bookstore bags are located in the pantry and the client can fill his or her bag at their leisure. Once their bag(s) is full, they are all set and can be on their way. Make sure to mark down their attendance in the record book for that month.

New pantry clients that come into the SAO must be checked for full or partial enrollment in the computer system. Once enrollment is verified, they need to fill out the Food Pantry Intake form located with the records. After the form is properly filled out and the waiver is signed (located on form) you must provide them with the next available ID number and card. Make sure to write their ID number on their intake form at the bottom. They can then be taken to the pantry. When they are finished make sure to enter their information into the "enrollment" database and to write their visit down in the records for that month.
